History and Character Come To Life

On December 1st our 4th and 5th grade students showcased their TADA! residencies with a performance. These performances are the culmination of a 12-week Musical Theater Play Building Residency.

Based on a curricular or class theme (Social Studies, Literacy,  etc.), students create an original mini-musical, rehearse the scenes and songs, and perform it for the school community. The program uses TADA's repertoire of original musicals (written specifically for performance by children) and age-appropriate Broadway music to promote active learning as students build their writing and performance skills.

The 4th Grade students and teachers used the residency to further explore their unit on The History of New York City. And the 5th Grade students and teachers used this residency to further explore "Good Character" through their studies in Character Education.

This residency is made possible by funds raised at our annual Gala.

Thanksgiving Feast!

On Wednesday, November 26th, our Kindergarten students hosted their annual Thanksgiving Feast in our cafeteria. Families brought in trays of hot food to share. Many families also donated extra trays which were given to St. Mark's Church in Manhattan.

Halloween Parade!

Today was the Halloween parade! Students wore their favorite costumes and paraded for parents and our community to see and admire.

Science Class at McCarren Park

The 5th grade went into the 'field' to do some hands on science and math. We walked to McCarren Park for a
special "Tree Lab" where students practiced measuring the circumference of different trees and learned to identify a tree by the shape of its leaves. It was a beautiful fall day, and we really liked learning about how a scientist collects data in the field, or in this case, the park.
